Frequently asked quesions

To make your visits easier, Sole Mate Podiatry has put together a list of the most common questions they receive. Take a look at the questions and answers below. If you still have some concerns, please get in touch.

How long will my initial assessment take?

An initial assessment will last up to 45 minutes, which allows time to discuss your completed medical history form and the treatment that will take place. However, we understand that every patient has their own individual needs, whether that be personal or medical. At Sole Mate Podiatry, we tailor each appointment to fit your need.

How long will my first appointment take?

At Sole Mate Podiatry, we understand that some patients may have challenges with mobility, or suffering from a complex condition, so we tailor each appointment to fit your need. At your initial assessment, your podiatrist will discuss with you the treatment needed and if any extra time will be needed. Here are some examples of medical treatment that may require additional time: Local Anaesthetic use for painful lesions and Onychocryptosis (painful ingrown toenail), Hyperkeratosis (excess skin plaques).

What is the difference between a Podiatrist and a Chiropodist?

None, the titles Chiropodist and Podiatrist are interchangeable. Podiatrist is the more internationally used term. In the UK, both titles are protected by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Will the treatment hurt?

This is a normal concern, but in the same way as having your hair cut is painless, skilled Podiatry should be entirely pain free. Conditions such as in growing toenails or deep corns may be sensitive to treat, however great relief is experienced following the treatment of the painful area. In some cases, anaesthetic may be used to prevent pain.

What can I see a Podiatrists for?

Qualified Podiatrists are medical professionals who specialise in foot health. They are experienced in assessing, diagnosing and treating issues and conditions relating to feet, ankles, and the lower limb, ranging from stubborn ingrowing toenails, verrucas, bothersome corns, calluses, wound care and painful bunions, through to diabetic care, footwear and healthcare advice.

Who do Podiatrists treat?

We look after patients of all ages, from children to senior adults, covering a range of podiatric treatment.

How much do your treatments cost?

Do you have a waiting area or reception?

A reception seating area is available at Sole Mate Podiatry. Ideally, it's best to be prompt for your appointment, but not too early.

How much notice do I have to give to cancel my appointment?

You are required to give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment. Cancellations within the 24 hours period will  be charged at the full appointment rate.

What happens if I forget or don't turn up for my appointment?

Is your practice wheelchair accessible?

Although the clinic is locate on the ground floor, there is an elevated entrance with seven steps to the front door. A handrail is available, positioned on the right-hand side of the steps, but unfortunately, this leaves us unable to facilitate wheelchair users. There are three allocated parking spaces directly outside the clinic for blue badge holders.
